who is Xela Florals?
Hi, I’m Alex (she/her), owner and lead designer here at XF.
Xela Florals was born out of the desire to change some of the less flattering floral industry norms and build a business that aligned with my morals and creative dreams. I am, at my core, someone who loves love, who wants you to be happy, and someone who will work diligently to make sure your visions are realized.
Let the flowers speak was a mantra I created for myself at the beginning of my floral practice. The flowers will tell you where they want to be in an arrangement, you can’t force them to do something they don’t want to. It is an intuitive and patient practice. Flowers are also a way to speak volumes when our words fail.
XF is a space for all. Much like the flowers, I myself have never felt comfortable being forced into any space that did not suit all that I am. Above everything else, inclusivity, kindness, and willingness to teach, learn, and grow are proudly and strongly at the root of my foundation. This line of work has given me the opportunity to find and follow my passion, and I feel so lucky to have the privilege to do this for others.
Originally from Wilmington, NC, I came to Durham in 2021 to be with my partner and quickly found that Durham is the community I had always been searching for. A large part of this effort to work for myself and build a more ethical and supportive community around myself and my fellow floral friends has been the unwavering support of my partner. If you book with Xela Florals, odds are you will see him accompanying me on set ups and bringing his own calming and positive energy to those around him.
Always finding joy in work hasn't been easy for me, but it is crucial for my longevity. So, in the early spring of 2024, I decided to re-evaluate my place in this industry and blaze a new path that better suited my floral dreams: thus Xela Florals was born!
I hope my joy resonates with my clients past, present, and future. I am here for you, to bring your visions to life, and to hopefully make your planning process a little more enjoyable. When you support Xela Florals, you are supporting a dream and, in turn, I get to help you create yours.
